This is a fundamental course for women and men who would like to take up the hobby of woodworking. Each student will learn, step by step, the machinery used in a woodworking shop with emphasis on safety and proper user techniques. In this hands-on course, each student will build a small project while using machines and hand tools such as the tablesaw, drill press, planer, jointer, scroll saw, router etc. Materials are extra. Whether you are building a kitchen, entertainment center, bathroom or a built in china cabinet, the basics of building the cabinet is the same. This course deals with the use of man made materials like melamines, veneers, plastic laminates and how to use them. This course demonstrates a variety of jigs for the tablesaw, bandsaw, drill press, router and more. Come and spend a day learning how much fun your scroll saw can be. In this hands-on class you will learn all about blade tensioning and selection in order to get the most out of your scroll saw. This class will cover working with different materials like plywood, hardwood, plastic, glass, metals etc. You will transfer patterns, do bevel cuts, stack cutting, compound cuts and angle cutting. Projects will include ornamental projects and a collapsible bowl. Machines and materials are supplied.

Furniture makers find the tablesaw to be an indispensable piece of equipment in the workshop. This course focuses on safety, blade selection, cutting techniques, special jigs and “tricks of the trade”. You will learn dadoing, tenoning, mitering, proper set-up and maintenance. Using rough lumber is the most economical way to build your furniture projects usually costing 1/3 or less than finished wood. Along with this though comes the problems of cupped, bowed, inwind and crooked lumber and you will be shown how to straighten it. A thorough look at the set-up, adjustments and proper techniques of using the thickness planer and the jointer will be learned. Instructor: Warren Bradshaw

This hands-on course is designed for beginner pyrographers who are interested in an economical, yet very rewarding hobby. This course will lead the student into the combined mystic of wood burning with the magic of color. You will burn and color a plaque. The technique of blending color with the burned image will open and diversify the student's opportunity to create original pictures within these mediums. Students need to supply their own burner. This fundamental course is designed to introduce the novice to turning. Fundamentals of the lathe, tools and safety will be discussed, followed by demonstrations of proper sharpening techniques, basic spindle and face plate turning. Each student will experience "hands on" education and will leave the course with sufficient knowledge to either make a wise purchase or run their existing lathe to its full capacity.
