These four flute tapered plug cutters from Fisch in Austria allow woodworker to make their own wooden plugs to hide countersunk screws or make repairs for knots etc. It is always difficult to fit wooden plugs perfectly; any slight runout or having the drill bit not matching the plug size perfectly leads to ill-fitting plugs that are very noticeable in your finished work. Fisch HSS tapered plug cutters are designed to cut slightly tapered plugs allowing a very snug fitting plug. The first 3 mm of the plug is the stated size and then the cut flares out at a 3° included angle. The Fisch cutters are one of the only manufacturers that have a cylindrical portion for good penetration into the hole, then taper out for a tight fit. If you cut plugs from scrap that matches your work, line up the grain, and trim carefully, the result will be nearly invisible. Unlike regular straight cut plug cutters the Fisch cutters also shave the sides of the wooden plug as they cut, producing very smooth plugs. Put a bit of glue in the hole, just tap a plug into it until you meet resistance, then cut off the excess. You will then have a plug that fits perfectly, with a nearly invisible line between the plug and the workpiece.
