The Axe™ replaceable carbide tip woodturning tools are setting a new industry standard in the turning world with better designed handles and construction process. There are three separate cutting designs for these advanced yet simple turning tools with each design available in two tool lengths. A round carbide cutter option for finishing, curves and general purpose work, a square tip tool for roughing and stock removal and a diamond shape cutter for detail work. All three tools are available in a full size length or a mid-size Hybrid length.

Made in the USA, the unique design of these tools feature a 16″ solid Maple handle on the full sized tool or a 13 1/4″ solid cherry handle on the mid-size “hybrid” tool. Different than traditional woodturning tools, the handles utilize flat sides and an angled rear. The taper and flats on the rear of the handle, which are not that different than a wood axe, not only allow for a more comfortable grip, but the design allows the user to determine the tools sheer angle when doing interior cuts that may not be as visible like when turning bowls. Another robust feature of these tools is the carbide cutter attaches to a 5/8″ round stainless steel tool bar which is long enough to be inserted into the handle a full 5” for added strength, balance and long-term durability. (deeper into the handle than any competitive tool) A 1/2″ flat grind has also been machined into the tool bar to provide a secure set on the tool rest. Additionally the stainless steel tool bar has been rounded on both sides of the flat. This feature allows for a smooth transition of the tool to be rotated into a shear cut mode, while providing complete control through the cut. The diamond shaped carbide detailing tool is completely flat on the base as it is not intended to be used at an angle.

Another nice feature of these tools is incorporated into the ferrule of the handle by a designated color to easily identify the tool you are looking to use. A blue ferrule for the square cut tools, a red ferrule for the round cut tools and a gold ferrule is used for the diamond cut tools. This way, at a moment’s the correct tool can be found every time.

By using carbide replaceable cutters no longer will you need to worry about sharpening your turning tools. With 360° of razor-sharp cutting edges available, simply loosen the set screw and rotate the cutter to a new edge when one becomes dull. Additionally the design of the cutters does not require you to “find the bevel” like traditional turning tools. Place the tool onto the rest flat and parallel to the ground, advance the tool slowly into the workpiece, and begin cutting. Tools can cut from left to right, or right to left. Additional carbide cutters can be purchased for each design tool.
