The Carter Products made in the USA Hollow Roller System is a captive bar tool for safely turning hollow forms and bowls. The bar is completely captive, which allows the operator to focus on the work and art of the vessel being turned instead of on the complexity of the hollowing system. It incorporates a fully sealed bearing lubrication free roller system that eliminates drag on the bar, thus enabling a smoother flowing motion to all tool movements. By doing this, it gives the operator more control and feel while turning the work piece.

The system comes complete with very substantial “Torque Arrestor” tool rest which attaches to the lathe through the user’s existing tool rest base as well as an auxiliary height adjustable tool rest. Also included is the Carter Accuright Series 175 quick lock long tool handle and the unique profile Hollow Roller boring bar (5/8″ quarter round diameter) with high speed steel scraper bit. (Carbide Hunter Bit Optional) The only other part needed is the Hollow Roller stud adaptor to fit your existing tool rest base and a desire to create unique artful vessels. A laser module, smaller diameter and larger length/diameter boring bars and other accessories are available for this system separately.

The Carter Accuright Series 175 quick lock tool handle, which comes with the system, also has the added benefit of allowing the use of other tools like gouges and scrapers. This gives the purchaser a high quality tool handle for uses other than with the Hollow Roller system. The Handle will accommodate most sizes of turning chisels that are unhandled. The Accuright 175 handle comes with a stock 5/8” collet, but can accommodate any size round bar chisel up to 3/4” with optional collets available from 3/8″ to 3/4″. Another tried and tested feature of the Accuright series handle is its large internal cavity which allows for the addition of sand, shot or any other material to add weight and increase dampening when in use.

Also available is the optional Carter Hollow Roller Laser Guide which provides a visible wall thickness and depth indicator that allows the user to see when the wall thickness is at the desired measurement or the cutter head is at the desired depth. The laser projects its light directly at the vessel being turned showing the exact location of the tip of the turning tool thus allowing the operator to make accurate cuts and stock removal. This measurement is set by the turner prior to inserting the cutting tool into the piece. The system comes with the easy to mount and adjust laser assembly that attaches directly to the Hollow Roller boring bar.

For tighter areas an option “Short Handle” is available but can only be used with the Hollow Roller System. The “Long Handle” which comes with the system can be used “Freehand” as well as with other brands and types of bar style chisels.
